All About Microblading!

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a technique using a manual method of eyebrow tattooing that creates beautiful, individual hair strokes. Microblading results in gorgeous, natural looking eyebrows. The microblading techniques can be more difficult on oily skin.

HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?

Microblading, typically last one to two years for most people before they need a touch up. Microblading treatments are considered semi-permanent  however, they will fade over time and may need to be refreshed every 11 months to 15 months. Those who do not follow aftercare instructions properly may require more frequent microblading touch-ups.

DOES MICROBLADING HURT?

At The Esthetic Loft our Licensed Estheticians (licensed by the Health Department as Body Art Artist)  use a numbing agent to help alleviate any discomfort. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during the microblading process.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR EYEBROW TATTOOS TO HEAL?

We Say a full 4 weeks. Here is the process. So your eyebrows will take approximately 10 days to heal. During that week, we encourage you to let them naturally exfoliate off. This means keeping them out of water, sweat, steam, etc. Once the scabbing phase passes, your eyebrows will appear lighter, and their true color should come out after four weeks. As long as you’re good at following the aftercare instructions, there shouldn’t be a problem going to work or being out in public.

IS MICROBLADING PERMANENT?

Because the color is implanted into the upper dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off, microblading brows is considered semi-permanent. However, the pigment is implanted more superficially than a traditional tattoo, making it fade over time and requiring future touch ups.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY MICROBLADING APPOINTMENT?

  • Do not work out 48 hours before the procedure.

  • *Discontinue any use on the face of retinol, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and alpha hydroxyls, as well as any chemical anti-aging exfoliants, eyebrow growth serums, or any "brightening" skin care products at least two to three weeks prior to your microblading procedure. These products thin the skin and do not produce good healed results.

  • Botox and dermal fillers should be avoided at least two to three weeks prior to the procedure.

  • Avoid sun and tanning beds at least two weeks prior to your appointment because when your skin exfoliates a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

  • Do not take any Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Niacin, or Advil within 48 hours of your appointment.

  • Avoid blood thinning supplements, like garlic, turmeric, vitamin E and fish oils.

  • Do not consume alcohol within 24-48 hours before procedure, and do not consume caffeine the morning of your appointment.

  • No brow waxing, tinting, or threading at least one week prior to your appointment.

  • Come with your brows penciled in so we can see how you like and are used to having them.

*Any skincare products for youth, repair, anti-aging, wrinkles, acne, tone correcting, brightening, etc. are likely to have these ingredients, do not use them anywhere on the face 3-4 weeks prior to procedure.

WILL YOU DRAW THE SHAPE ON FIRST?

Yes, we won’t start the microblading process until you agree with the color selected and the shape.

CAN I WEAR MAKEUP AFTER MICROBLADING?

Do not wear makeup on the brows for at least two weeks after your procedure, but everywhere else is fine.

IS THE SECOND APPOINTMENT NECESSARY?

For microblading, at least two appointments are needed initially, at least four to six weeks apart. Microblading touch-ups are done no earlier than four weeks after your initial procedure and no later than six. If you do not schedule your eyebrow  touch-up within six weeks, you will be required to pay the touch-up fee outlined in the touch-up schedule. It is absolutely imperative to complete the touch-up treatment. Without it, the results will not be optimal. At the touch-up visit, we assess the color retention and make adjustments as necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your microblading does not heal perfectly the first time, do not worry! We can always go bolder and add more density as well as correct any irregularities in the microbladed hair strokes during the touch-up.

HOW WILL MY EYEBROWS LOOK RIGHT AFTER THE MICROBLADING PROCEDURE? DO I NEED TO GO HOME AND HIDE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS?

They will look great! They may be a little darker for a couple of days (will lighten approximately 30%), but you shouldn't experience any bruising and will only have very minimal swelling.

DOES MICROBLADING HURT AFTERWARD?

The eyebrow tattoo area can be a little sore for the first few hours, and it is not uncommon for it to be tender for a few days.

CAN YOU MICROBLADE OVER AN EXISTING TATTOO?

Yes. However, the old tattoo must be significantly faded for the hair strokes to show through and look natural. If you do have an existing tattoo, we recommend that you submit a picture to our permanent makeup artists so we can determine whether you are a good candidate for the microblading procedure.

I HAD MY EYEBROWS MICROBLADED SOMEWHERE ELSE, CAN YOU DO A TOUCH UP?

If you have been microbladed elsewhere and need a touch-up, the full microblading price will be charged.

  • Do not laser around the brow area, as some lasers can change the color of the pigment.
